Linda Perry’s column: Activities in May

Saturday 6 May 2017

May is a very important month for Children’s Hospices. This is because it is Children’s Hospice Week from 22-28 May, which is when all of the children’s hospices across the UK try to improve awareness about the needs of children with life-shortening conditions and their families.

The aim is to let people know what children’s hospices do to support children, and to give them ideas to help raise money to support the vital services that are required. As well as this, it is a celebration of the important work that hospices like Chestnut Tree House do, which so many children and families rely on.

There is also cause for celebration on Friday 12 May, as it is International Nurses Day, and it is also the International Day of Families on Monday 15 May.  Both of which will recognise an important group of people who are at the centre of all we do – our fabulous team of caring nurses and care support workers, and also the families we care for who are at the heart of it all.

It will be yet another busy month for our activity leaders, who are not only planning fun and exciting themed activities for the children to enjoy, but they will not forget to celebrate British Sandwich Week on 14-20 May, as well as Water A Flower Day and World Turtle Day as well – so much going on!

At Chestnut Tree House we recognise the importance of helping the children have fun and making many special memories for their families to treasure.

Linda Perry is Director of Children’s Services at Chestnut Tree House. Her column is published every Wednesday in the West Sussex Gazette.
