As part of our Havant shop’s 5th birthday celebrations recently, staff and volunteers created a Chestnut Tree House paper chain. They then encouraged everyone to write a birthday message on this, to send to the children, young people and families who use the hospice. Made up of colourful sunshine yellow links, the paper chain was on display at the shop during the birthday celebrations.
This week Havant shop manager, Jacquie Neale, accompanied by volunteer, Sue Neal, visited Chestnut Tree House in Arundel to present the chain to activity co-ordinators, Nichola Bouch and Tracy Hole. This will now be on view in Reception for children, families, staff and volunteers to read and enjoy the lovely messages of support from the local community.
Apart from those written by customers to the shop, Jacquie and Sue spent the morning at the Meridian Shopping Centre in Havant, collecting messages on the links for a small donation. They raised over £180.
Head of Retail, Jan Harper said: “Our Havant shop is our only Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice shop in South East Hampshire. Last year Chestnut Tree House cared for 39 children in the local area, both at the hospice and through a dedicated team of Community Nurses delivering care in families’ own homes.”
“This was a really fun way to show strong the links between our shops and the children’s hospice.”
