Children and families staying at Chestnut Tree House were treated to a lovely surprise when TV star, comedian and children’s author, David Walliams, dropped in for a visit last week.
There were gales of laughter as David read extracts from his books, The World’s Worst Children and Awful Auntie and showed some of the humorous Quentin Blake drawings on a big screen to illustrate his stories.
The children and families were also invited to ask David any question they liked during a question and answer session led by Linda Perry, Director of Children’s Services at Chestnut Tree House, and every child received a signed copy of one of David’s books.
David’s dog, Bert – a social media star in his own right – also came along and was a great hit with the children, who all made a big fuss of him, and nurses who enjoyed taking him for walks in the garden while David was reading.
Linda said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to David for taking time out of his busy schedule to come and see us. It was a wonderful experience for the children and families – he really brought the readings to life, complete with funny voices and comic facial expressions. It was very heart-warming to see all their happy faces and to hear so much laughter.”
