Will you spot The Snowman in Sussex?

Thursday 2 November 2017

We are celebrating a decade of friendship with The Snowman this winter!

First published in 1978, Raymond Briggs’ original picture book, The Snowman™ will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year. In advance of this, we are helping this iconic and much loved character get into the party spirit by celebrating our 10-year relationship with The Snowman™ this winter, in the run-up to our tenth annual Snowman Spectacular Fundraising Ball.

Snowman Spectacular launch 2008 - Snowman & Raymond BriggsThe Ball, which is taking place on Saturday 2 December, takes its inspiration from The Snowman™, the picture book illustrated by Chestnut Tree House Patron, Raymond Briggs CBE (pictured outside the Royal Pavilion in Brighton in advance of the first Snowman Spectacular Ball in 2008).

Now in its tenth year, The Snowman™ Spectacular Fundraising Ball hopes to raise as much as possible to help us continue to provide specialist care for life-limited children in Brighton & Hove, East and West Sussex, and South East Hampshire.

Sarah Arnold, Head of Fundraising at Chestnut Tree House said: “We are so incredibly grateful to Raymond Briggs for allowing us to feature The Snowman in our Fundraising Ball for the last 10 years. The iconic story is loved by many, but the themes and emotions particularly resonate with us and the children and families that we care for.

“The young boy in The Snowman story gets to experience the most amazing adventure, but then he loses his new friend. But, when you think of The Snowman, it’s not the sad ending you remember. It’s the happy times they have together and this is very much what Chestnut Tree House is about – providing wonderful care, experiences, and precious memories of happy times together.”

TheSnowmanThe Snowman™ Appearances: To celebrate 10 years of working with The Snowman™, we are taking the renowned character out and about in Sussex in the month before our Fundraising Ball. So big children (and their kids) should keep their eyes peeled for the festive favourite this November.

Dates and times of The Snowman’s appearances will be revealed on our social media channels. Look out for #SnowmanSpectacular on Facebook and Twitter and help us raise funds and awareness for children with life-shortening conditions.

The first Snowman appearances will be in Brighton on Saturday 4 November, marking the launch of our Snowman Spectacular Online Auction.

The Snowman™ Bus: Look out too for Chestnut Tree House and The Snowman™ on one of the Brighton & Hove double-decker buses this winter!
