To celebrate 10 years of working with The Snowman™ and mark the launch of our Snowman Spectacular Online Auction, we spent Saturday 4 November in Brighton with Raymond Briggs’ iconic character.
Kicking off with a flight on the British Airways i360, The Snowman walked in the air above the city – meeting children and families, before travelling on a special edition Brighton & Hove Snowman bus to one of Brighton’s most famous landmarks, the Royal Pavilion, to step out on the ice.
The Snowman Spectacular Online Auction is open to everyone, throughout November, and closes at midnight on Saturday 2 December during the tenth annual Snowman Spectacular Fundraising Ball.
Taking its inspiration from The Snowman™, the picture book created and illustrated by our Patron, Raymond Briggs CBE, the Ball hopes to raise as much as possible to help the charity continue to provide specialist care for life-limited children in Brighton & Hove, East and West Sussex, and South East Hampshire.
Sarah Arnold, Head of Fundraising at Chestnut Tree House said: “We are so incredibly grateful to our friend and Patron, Raymond Briggs, for allowing us to feature The Snowman in our Fundraising Ball for the last 10 years. The Snowman Spectacular Ball is the biggest event on our fundraising calendar and while tickets for the event have sold out, we would like as many people as possible to get involved by checking out the online auction.
Lots in the Snowman Spectacular Online Auction include a five-star Caribbean holiday; tickets to The Voice UK live show in March 2018, including 4* hotel accommodation; a radio session with Guy Lloyd at Juice 107.2; and signed Ashley Young football boots.
Describing why The Snowman is so important to Chestnut Tree House, Sarah Arnold said: “The Snowman is loved by many, but the themes and emotions particularly resonate with us and the children and families that we care for.
“The young boy in the story gets to experience the most amazing adventure, but then he loses his new friend. But, when you think of The Snowman, it’s not the sad ending you remember. It’s the happy times they have together and this is very much what Chestnut Tree House is about – providing wonderful care, experiences, and precious memories of happy times together.”
We will be out with The Snowman again soon, announcing dates and times on our social media channels. Look out for #SnowmanSpectacular on Facebook and Twitter and help us raise funds and awareness for children with life-shortening conditions.
The next Snowman appearances will be in Crawley on Saturday 11 November, followed by Brighton later in the month.
