Nine year old takes on cycle challenge for Chestnut Tree

Thursday 11 January 2018

Nine year old Daniel MacDiarmid, better known as Shrimp, cycled 50 miles in December to raise money for Chestnut Tree children’s hospice.

On Saturday 16 December Shrimp, from Chailey, cycled from Brighton Racecourse to Hayling Island in five and a half hours, raising £1583. Having completed his challenge he used the money to purchase presents, which he delivered to Chestnut Tree House on Friday 22 December 2017.

This is the second time that Shrimp has supported Chestnut Tree. He chose to buy presents for the charity, which cares for children with life-shortening conditions and their families, because he knows the children are poorly and “wanted to make them smile on Christmas Day” he says.

Georgina Cook, from Chestnut Tree, commented: “We would like to say congratulations to Shrimp on his amazing achievement. He has raised an amazing amount of money which will make a real difference to local children and their families.”
