Goring Road Chestnut Tree House shop celebrates its 1st birthday

Monday 16 April 2018

We recently celebrated our Goring Road shop’s 1st anniversary with a party.  We were delighted that The Mayor of Worthing, Councillor Alex Harman, attended together with staff, volunteers, customers and supporters.

Chestnut Tree House Trustee, Stephen Hollamby, welcomed everyone to the event and thanked the local community for their kind generosity and support for the shop since it opened last April.

In the last year, the shop team have processed and sold over 25,000 items that were generously donated by local residents.  A quarter of these items were gift aided, meaning an extra 25p for every £1 pound donated.  Since opening, the shop has raised enough funds to allow 38 children to spend a night at Chestnut Tree House, where they will receive specialist care and symptom management from our nursing team and be able to enjoy the facilities which the hospice offer.

Everyone enjoyed refreshments and the stunning teddy bear birthday cake made by our Retail Area Manager, Karen Bentley.  The cake was cut by The Mayor of Worthing, Councillor Alex Harman and Shop Manager, Nichola Lambert, helped by Sidney the Squirrel, our Chestnut Tree House mascot.

The Goring shop is situated at 18 Goring Road, Worthing, and stocks general items of clothing, accessories, bric-a-brac, small electricals, books and homeware.   It also has an exciting children’s department with clothing, toys and games, to appeal to families in the local area.
