Collecting milk bottle tops

How you can help us?

We are really grateful to everyone who is collecting milk bottle tops for us but please note - We do not collect the milk bottle tops at the hospice and have no facility to arrange collection from you but if you are able to get to one of 3 collection/drop of points then they will be collected regularly by the recycling company.

The collection points are at -

•St. Pauls Church, Churchside, Chichester, W Sussex, PO19 6FT
•St Richard RC Church, Cawley Rd, Chichester, W Sussex, PO19 1XB
•Walberton Village Hall, The Street, Walberton, Arundel, W Sussex, BN18 0PH‎

People have been collecting milk bottle tops for 2 years now have raised over £200. Thank you to everyone who has helped to collect so many milk bottle tops!

FAQ

What happens to the bottle tops?
The plastic milk bottle tops are collected by GHS recycling (based in Portsmouth). The tops are then granulated down and melted/ recycled and can then be used to make children's plastic slides, toys, furniture or more milk bottle tops!

Is it just milk bottle tops that can be collected/recycled?

YES
The following can be recycled -
Red, Blue, Green and White plastic milk bottle tops ONLY
Important - Please remove all stickers from the top and any tabs or inserts from the inside of the lid as these materials can contaminate the load - which means all milk bottle tops in that load will be wasted and not counted.

How much does Chestnut Tree House receive?

Chestnut Tree House currently receives money for every Ton of Milk Bottle Tops which is equal to about 150 large bin bags full so everyone counts! So far the recycling company has recycled the size of an Olympic swimming pool full of milk bottle tops which would have gone to landfill.

Why is there no collection point in East Sussex?

The scheme was started for us in Chichester and has taken a lot of time and dedication of one of our supporters but unfortunately it is not cost effective for us to set up any other collection points at this time. Please be aware that the cost of transporting them can out way the amount we receive from the recycling company.

How can I be a collection point?

Do you have the time and space to store about 20 bin bags full of milk bottle tops before they are collected by the recycling company? If you do then please contact GHS Recycling on 02392 670399 to see if they can travel to your area and collect (don't forget to say you would like to raise money for Chestnut Tree House). If you would like to talk to someone who is already doing this please email us and we can pass on your details.
