Iwan Thomas shows his support for our Go Gold event
Chestnut Tree House were delighted when professional footballer, Paul Jones, pledged to continue his support for Chestnut Tree House throughout 2010. Based in West Sussex, Paul heard about Chestnut Tree House through a friend and wanted to help a local children's charity. Over the last few years his fundraising has totalled over £30,000 and greatly helped to raise the awareness of the hospice and our work. He and his wife, Annette, undertook a gruelling trek of the Great Wall of China, have organised celebrity golf days and a celebrity football match and have lent their support to various hospice events throughout the year.
On Friday 7th May 2010 they once again held their Charity Golf Day at the Goodwood Park Hotel and Golf Course in Chichester. Celebrities from the world of sport, TV and radio attended the event including Kevin Keegan, Iwan Thomas, Jimmy Case and Steve Brookstein. In the evening there was a 3 course dinner and dance with auction and entertainment. The event raised in the region of £10,000 with money still coming in!
During his career, Paul has played over 300 games for Southampton - including the FA cup final in 2003 - as well as playing for Wolves, Stockport County, Queens Park Rangers, Millwall, Watford and Liverpool. He has earned 50 caps for his country, Wales, between 1996 until 2006 and is currently the goalkeeping coach for Wales.
