Bereavement care

As well as providing end of life care, we also offer support for the child and their families after death. Chestnut Tree House has a suite for the family, with a private room where the child or young person who has died may rest in cooled conditions until the time of the funeral.

For a family in mourning we are able to create a much preferred alternative choice of environment to hospital services.

Our care team at Chestnut Tree House also help with the arrangements required with the appointed Funeral Director, and the support offered continues in several ways following the funeral.

We have sibling support groups, special events for mums and dads, bereavement and formal counselling services.

Counselling

Chestnut Tree House understands that looking after a sick child can have both positive and negative effects on a family. So at the times when family life becomes a bit more difficult, you may feel that talking to someone who understands some of the issues you may be facing might be helpful.

Counselling is available and referrals can be accessed directly or through the care staff, for two different types of support, preventative family support and post bereavement counselling.

Our Counsellor works 20 hrs a week and offers a systemic approach to counselling, which means working with or acknowledging the whole family and encouraging the family to understand how they communicate with each other. This approach recognises a families strengths and offers them space and support to make any changes they feel they need to make.
