FAQs

Who can access the services of Chestnut Tree House?
We welcome referrals from either families or professionals. A children's hospice team provides care for children and young people who have a life limiting or life threatening condition. As this may change over time we also have a yearly review assessment.

How many nights will I be allocated?
Each family is individual and after assessment a family will be informed of their individual allocation of nights. The details can be discussed with the bookings team on 01903 871804.

Can I stay with my child/ young person?
The first overnight visit is always with a family carer staying over as well. A family room can be booked (or more than one) depending on availability. This could be a special opportunity for grandparents to spend some quality time with the patients, the options and possibilities are for the family to decide. Parent(s) are responsible for the care of siblings during their stay, however, they will be included in all daily activity programmes.

Who will look after my child/young person?
Our aim is to provide a quality service at all times. To meet the diverse needs of the families that will use our services we have staff with a wide range of qualifications and experiences. During the day we provide a 1:1 ratio to ensure that extremely high standards of care are always maintained.

I already receive overnight respite care from another agency, will this be affected?
If a family already uses the facilities of another hospice, they will be invited to visit Chestnut Tree House for an overnight stay to help them to decide which hospice is easier to access. If any respite nights are provided by another agency this will not be affected by the use of Chestnut Tree House.

I do not have my own transport so how will I get to Chestnut Tree House?
Chestnut Tree House is not easily accessible by public transport as we are not on a bus route and the nearest rail stations are at Angmering or Arundel. Discuss the possibility of having transport arranged for your visit, with a social worker or community nurse.

Do I have to pay?
Chestnut Tree House is funded by charitable donations and there are no costs to pay, this includes all meals. Medical cover is also provided for your child/ young person during their stay. Care is free.

How can Chestnut Tree House afford to provide these services?
Chestnut Tree House costs approximately £2 million each year to run. We receive very little government funding and therefore rely almost entirely on charitable donations, fundraising events and activities, legacies and trusts from individuals, businesses and organisations right across Sussex in order to keep our doors open and provide much-needed care and support for our children and their families.
