Music Therapy at Chestnut Tree House
Music therapy is a state registered profession within the UK. As a creative arts therapy, it provides a safe space in which young people can express themselves or make themselves heard using the unique, non-verbal language of music.
A music therapist is there to support such expressions helping to create a unique rapport through shared music-making.
Recent research gathered from parents and carers acknowledges the quality of life that Music Therapy can give to children and their families who use the Hospice. It can also be a lot of fun, leading to greater calmness and relaxation in the midst of anxiety, pain or fear.
Music Therapy is not just for individual enjoyment, it can be shared with family and friends. It also helps provide special memories during the years to come.
There are many other ways in which a Music Therapist can contribute to the community life of the Hospice, running music groups or providing music for special occasions.
At Chestnut Tree House the Music Therapy service evolves according to the needs of the children, young people and their families.
