The cost of all care services at Chestnut Tree House on 24 December have been paid for by Mark and Fiona Hutchinson.

Here is why they have chosen to pay for a day:

Chestnut Tree House has a really special place in our hearts. It means the world to our family.

In December 2007 our daughter Rowena was diagnosed with a rare form of Cancer, a rhabdomysarcoma, and our lives changed.  In 2007 on Christmas Eve we were in Great Ormond Street being discharged at 6pm to go home with Rowena having had a biopsy, a Hickman line fitted, and her first cycle of chemotherapy – from then to the June it was a cycle of despair and agony.  However, in the June we were introduced to Chestnut Tree House and a community nurse called Helen came out to give us respite care, Rowena had just finished radio therapy and was starting on her final cycles of chemotherapy which made her really sick, she was on 28 different doses of medicine and could not be left with anyone.  Helen was an angel to us and Rowena adored her.  She was the only person who I could happily leave Rowena with in order to spend a few hours with my other children.

Thank you to Chestnut Tree House – it meant the world to us at this bleak time in our lives.  Rowena is now growing up and thankfully in total remission and I will always treasure what Chestnut Tree House did for us as a family.  As a result we are so happy to “Pay for a Day”.

Everyone at Chestnut Tree House would like to say a most grateful thank you to Mark and Fiona Hutchinson for their generosity and continued support, which makes a real difference to the life-limited children and families we support.

Mike Holland

The cost of all care services at Chestnut Tree House on 7 December and 12 December have been paid for by our Patron Mike Holland.

Here is why he has chosen to pay for these two days:

“Many years ago, I lost my son Brian aged 13 to cancer and sadly did not have the help of a hospice. If I had, then many of the challenges my family faced afterwards, could have been alleviated. There was so little support or understanding about the need to grieve and also how vital counselling is for the whole family.

“I want to make sure that families in Sussex have all the support they possibly can get when faced with the devastating news that a son, daughter, brother or sister is not going to reach adulthood. Chestnut Tree house provides happiness and comfort from the family’s first visit to the very last day of the child’s life. The child’s remaining days are filled with love and joy, giving their parents the memories that will last for the rest of their lives.”

Everyone at Chestnut Tree House would like to say a most grateful thank you to Mike Holland for his generosity and continued support, which makes a real difference to the life-limited children and families we support.

Skerritts pay for a day at Chestnut Tree HouseThe cost of all care services at Chestnut Tree House on the 25 November have been paid for by Richard Skerritt.

This is why he has chosen to Pay for a Day:

“At Skerritts, we like to give something back to the community through charitable donations and support several charities each year. As a father of six lovely children, my focus tends to be on children’s charities and we tend to support local charities, although we did fund the construction of a Children’s Home in India a few years ago.

We were spurred on to make the recent donation by seeing the parent speaker at the ball who spoke about how Chestnut Tree House supported her and continued to do so, it touched us immensely.”
