Pay for a day: Essie’s Day

Friday 19 April 2019

FEssieriday 19 April is Essie’s Day at Chestnut Tree House. A day of care has been paid for in memory of Essie Victoria Cobbett who flew away to be a shooting star on 13 August 2017, forever aged 18 months.

Team Essie raised £20,000 by 170 runners taking part in the Littlehampton 10k in September 2018 and it is thanks to all these people that took part in Team Essie 2018 that we have paid for a day of care at Chestnut Tree House.

It costs £6,850 each and every day to provide all Chestnut Tree House’s care services, both at the hospice and in families’ own homes. And the charity relies on donations and fundraising to cover over 90% of their costs; and that’s just to keep helping the 300 families like ours that they support through the emotional minefield that is having a life limited child.

For every child currently being cared for by Chestnut Tree House, there is another local child and family who needs their help. Which just isn’t possible with the money they currently operate on each year.

“Essie might have only lived for 18 months, but she fought so hard during her little life and never gave up. Essie’s Day is 19 April as this is the day she finally came home from hospital aged 11 weeks and got to spend time with her triplet brother and sister. Love is truly what made our little tortoise keep on fighting and endure the five end of life episodes she went through.

We will never be able to repay Chestnut Tree House for everything that they did for us and our family – and especially our darling Essie. Thank you just isn’t enough, but it’s a start.

Thank you

Lorna and Steve (Essie’s Mummy and Daddy – as well as Team Essie ambassadors!)

Everyone at Chestnut Tree House would like to say thank you to Lorna and Steve Cobbett along with all the members of Team Essie who have helped pay for a days care today.
