Pay for a Day: Angmering-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club

Friday 6 September 2019
The Angmering-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club hosted a Tennisathon on Friday 26 July, raising a whopping £8,250 for Chestnut Tree House.

The Tennisathon – a day full of tennis themed events – started with 120 local tennis players taking to tennis courts and playing hourly doubles matches for ten hours straight. The tennis competition was umpired by BBC Broadcaster and sporting pundit, John Inverdale, who also judged a tennis ball sculpture competition, acted as an auctioneer, and drew the raffle winners.

Held in aid of Chestnut Tree House, the Tennisathon raised an incredible £8,250, which is more than enough to pay for a whole day of Chestnut Tree House’s specialist care services, both at the house and in families’ own homes across Sussex and South East Hampshire.

Ian Robinson, Chairman of Angmering-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club, says “I am delighted that the Tennis Club and its members have been able to raise this sum of money for the children’s hospice as I am personally only too aware of the sensitive and loving care provided in difficult times”.

The Angmering-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club has chosen to support the charity’s ‘Pay for a Day’ initiative, pledging their fundraising total to pay for all the care provided by Chestnut Tree House on Friday 6 September 2019. And, due to the success of the event, they have decided to continue their support of the children’s hospice in 2020.

Ashley How, Committee Member of Angmering-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club, says “Following on from the success of this event, the Committee has unanimously agreed to do a similar event in July 2020, and have again chosen to support Chestnut Tree House”

“We would like to say a huge thank you to Angmering-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club and everyone who attended the Tennisathon”, says Caroline Roberts-Quigley, Community Fundraiser at Chestnut Tree House. “Not only have they raised an amazing amount of money for us, but they have also helped raise awareness of the care and support we offer in the local community.

“We need to raise £6,850 every day to pay for all our specialist care services, so the £8,250 raised at the Tennisathon will pay for more than 24 hours of our care. On behalf of everyone at Chestnut Tree House, I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the tennis club for their generosity and continued support, which makes a real difference to the local children and families we support”.
