Make memories with The Snowman this winter

Monday 14 October 2019

Raymond Briggs’s classic picture book, The Snowman™, is a piece of Christmas magic. It captures the wonder and innocence of childhood – making new friends, having adventures, exploring the world – but also touches on the concept of loss.

Creating memorable moments to treasure is central to both Chestnut Tree House and The Snowman story; and this winter, we are joining together with Raymond Briggs’s iconic character to help local children and families create memories of their own.

Help to build The Snowman mosaic with BRICKLIVE events

The Snowman mosaicThe first activity to get involved in is taking place at the start of half term in Brighton’s Churchill Square Shopping Centre on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 October. Fans of toy bricks will be in their element, as the free event, which is open to people of all ages, involves helping to create a special brick mosaic image of Raymond Briggs’s, The Snowman.

In collaboration with BRICKLIVE, a global brand focusing on interactive play and creative experiences, the mosaic event requires around 500 people to build individual ‘base plates’ using instructions and toy bricks. Once complete, the individual plates will be placed together to create a giant 2m x 1m image of The Snowman flying over the fields and houses below.

A similar mosaic event will take place at Priory Meadow Shopping Centre in Hastings over the weekend of 9-10 November.

The Snowman’s creator, Raymond Briggs CBE, has supported Chestnut Tree House for many years and is a Patron of the charity.

“When I created The Snowman 40 years ago, I could never have imagined the pleasure he would bring to so many young lives. I am delighted that my Snowman has helped Chestnut Tree House over the years, so that they can continue to care for some of the most deserving children in our community.” Raymond Briggs

Meet The Snowman

The Snowman BAi360There will be various opportunities to meet The Snowman with us at locations across Sussex and South East Hampshire this winter. The first is on Saturday 26 October – day one of the BRICKLIVE mosaic event in Brighton – when he will be joining us to encourage big kids (and their children!) to get involved in building the giant image in Churchill Square.

The following Saturday (2 November), he will be flying 138m above Brighton onboard the BAi360, taking in views of the city and coastline. As well as meeting people in the glass viewing pod, The Snowman will be helping us to celebrate the launch of The Snowman Spectacular Online Auction, which is live between 2–30 November. Join him on the 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm or 1.30pm flight on 2 November by booking directly with the attraction; standard ticket prices apply.

The Snowman will also be attending the second day of the BRICKLIVE mosaic event in Priory Meadow, Hastings, on Sunday 10 November.

Other activities featuring The Snowman this winter include a children’s drawing competition and a Get Festive with The Snowman fundraising campaign.
