Storytelling with Julia Donaldson

‘A mouse took a stroll through the deep dark wood…’

IMG_E3606On Saturday 19 October, Julia Donaldson – author of an extensive range of children’s books, including The Gruffalo, Stick Man and Room on the Broom – spent the morning at Chestnut Tree House, together with her husband, Dr Malcolm Donaldson.

Treating a group of children and families to a unique interactive storytelling session at the House, Julia and Malcolm recreated family favourites, The Gruffalo and A Squash and a Squeeze, as well as her latest story, The Smeds and the Smoos. The talented pair used music and promenade theatre to involve the children and families, encouraging them to play the different characters featured in the books.

Before leaving Chestnut Tree House, Julia spent time signing books and writing messages to the children, giving each of them one of her books to take away.

“Moments are precious to all of us, but even more so when you have a child with a life-shortening condition. We are so grateful to Julia and Malcolm for being Chestnut Tree House Ambassadors and helping these families to make some truly special memories.”

For storytelling adventures. For making memories. For the Now.
