Julia and the Gruffalo

Message from ambassador Julia Donaldson

On 2 April, Julia Donaldson – author of an extensive range of children’s books, including The Gruffalo, Stick Man and Room on the Broom – launched a weekly broadcast to entertain families while they are at home.

Julia and her husband, Malcolm, are Ambassadors of Chestnut Tree House and regularly visit the House to treat children and families to special storytelling sessions. Julia hopes you all enjoy her weekly broadcasts of stories, songs and poems, and has sent this special message to Chestnut Tree House children, families and supporters:

“My husband, Malcolm, and I have supported Chestnut Tree House for many years so we know what a wonderful charity it is. Thanks so much to all of you who have continued to support the charity during this difficult time. We always really enjoy our visits to the House when we can share some special storytelling experiences with the children and their families. Unfortunately, while the hospice is closed, this isn’t possible, but I do hope that sharing my stories, songs and poems every week will help at this difficult time. We do look forward, of course, to being able to visit Chestnut Tree House again in the future, but until then, take care and stay safe.”

Julia will be sharing a selection of books published by Macmillan Children’s Books and Scholastic during the weekly broadcasts, which will air at 4pm every Thursday on The Gruffalo and Scholastic Facebook pages. You can also find them on the Scholastic website.
