Ali McIntosh started working at Chestnut Tree House as a nurse and over the last couple of years has advanced her skills and knowledge to become a Team Leader.
“I’ve always wanted to care for children and their families,” says Ali. “I have been at Chestnut Tree House for just over three years now – and I am here to stay!”
“My favourite part of my role is helping children to reach their own personal goals, and I feel immensely honoured to be able to help and support families who are dealing with challenging and traumatic times, especially at the end of their child’s life.”
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, we have had to close Chestnut Tree House for routine respite breaks and day visits. However, the care team remain in contact with children and families.
Reflecting on the situation, Ali says: “It’s really difficult not being able to provide the care that we usually offer to families – the care that we always pride ourselves on that makes such a difference to families’ lives. Many of our families are self-isolating and shielding due to COVID-19, and we miss them dearly.”
“To relax and wind-down after a trying shift, I love spending time with my family. I have also started running and taking part in gym classes – virtually of course! I think of the memories that I love, such as travelling. My favourite place to visit is Canada – I have been in both summer and winter, and it is just stunning all year round!”
Now more than ever, the children and families who depend on care staff like Ali need the help of friends like you. Please donate today to help save your local children’s hospice: www.chestnut-tree-house.org.uk/crisis-appeal
