Volunteer Spotlight – September

Thursday 17 September 2020

Vol4865 [1080×1080]

This month’s Volunteer Spotlight is on Kay, volunteer at our Goring Road shop.

Layla, the shop’s manager, says Kay is their ‘bric-a-brac queen’ as she is so good at recognising the valuable items.

Kay says, “I have volunteered at this shop since it opened, and previously volunteered at the shop that was here before it.

I love meeting the people who come in here, and I really enjoy going through the bric-a-brac as I love spotting the items that will raise the most for the hospice. I once spotted what looked like a very black plain plate, and suggested we cleaned it up – it turned out it was a solid silver plate that then sold for £100! I love finding the treasures and the rare finds.

I was so pleased to be able to come back to my volunteering role at the shop once I had stopped shielding – it’s great to have a reason to get out of the house.”
