Mother and son’s Captain Tom 100 cycling challenge

Tuesday 13 April 2021

Have you heard about the Captain Tom 100?

The Captain Tom 100 is a new fundraising initiative over Captain Tom’s birthday weekend of Friday 30 April to Bank Holiday Monday 3 May to celebrate his life and amazing achievements. People all over the world are invited to take on a challenge based around the number 100 to raise funds for a charity of their choice.

Finley – Captain Tom 100Kirsty and her six-year-old son, Finley (pictured) have signed up and will be cycling 100 laps of their local park to raise money for Chestnut Tree House.

“Captain Tom was a true inspiration,” said Kirsty.

“Finley and I talked about this incredible challenge and what we could do to raise money for a local charity that we already support.

“Finley loves riding his bike, so we have decided for our Captain Tom 100 challenge to ride 100 laps around our local park between us, which equates to just over 34 miles.”

The mother and son team have already raised over £350 on their JustGiving page, smashing their original fundraising target of £100.

Caroline Roberts-Quigley, Fundraiser at Chestnut Tree House said: “Like many other charities, we have been hugely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The closure of our shops and cancellation of fundraising events has meant a significant loss in income, at a time when children and families have needed us more than ever. We are so grateful to Kirsty and Finley for taking part in the Captain Tom 100 and choosing to support Chestnut Tree House, and wish them the best of luck with their cycling challenge.”

What will you do celebrate the extraordinary spirit of Captain Tom?
