Welcome to new CEO, Ben Merrett

Thursday 10 June 2021

Ben MerrettI’m extremely proud to be writing this as Chief Executive Officer at Chestnut Tree House. It has been a busy few weeks since I was appointed in May and I am looking forward to leading the hospices – Chestnut Tree House and St Barnabas House, into the next phase of their development.

Your support during the pandemic has enabled the hospices to continue delivering outstanding care to people in our local community.

While I may be new to the charity, I have been well informed about the incredible resilience, motivation and determination that has been shown throughout the last year. Not only by our care teams, staff, and volunteers, but by you – our wonderful supporters who have been going above and beyond to donate and fundraise.

Thanks to your generosity and everyone working together to manage changes, Chestnut Tree House has been able to remain open throughout the pandemic for end-of-life care and bereavement support. In addition to supporting our sister hospice, St Barnabas House, some of the care team supported local NHS hospitals, and we also continued our crucial services and stayed in regular touch with families in self-isolation at home. As restrictions have started to ease, we have been able to reopen to children and families for day visits and short breaks.

In the short time I have been at the charity, it has become clear to me how both Chestnut Tree House and St Barnabas House are part of the local community. Teamwork, outstanding care and community support are what makes the charity so special, but this isn’t limited to the pandemic. Past, present and future, you make a difference and make local hospice care possible.

I’m proud to be part of that and thank you for your support.

Ben
