Prior to his retirement from full-time working in May 2020 David Rennie worked for 24 years as a Criminal Law Barrister, both defending and prosecuting cases in the Crown Court. In 2001 he was appointed as a Circuit Judge and presided over serious criminal trials in Sussex and at the Old Bailey for the next 19 years. He offered work experience to a large number of students and undergraduates over those years as they contemplated a possible career in the Law.
He lives in Hove with his wife who is a Clinical Psychologist. They have 2 sons who are now both at university. He is a keen amateur film maker and enjoys the complexities of film editing. He enjoys long country walks, spending time with his extended family in Ireland and maintaining French as a second language.
It was only when a very close friend died in a Sussex hospice 13 years ago that he experienced first-hand the extraordinary work that is done by such organisations. He promised himself that he would offer his services once he retired from full-time work and is very pleased that St Barnabas Hospices have been prepared to give him the chance to make a contribution.
