Castle Night Trek – What to expect

Scroll down to see a gallery of images from last year's event.

Before the walk starts

Face painting, an energetic warm up, and your chance to spend some time with your family and friends before the trek starts!

Lots of fun at the start of the Castle Night Trek event.

Cross the finish line at 11pm

The trek should take 2 -3 hours to complete, and we’ll all set off at 8.45 pm together. There’ll be a lead walker at the front setting the pace – and an end walker at the back making sure no-one gets left behind! We’ll have marshals stationed around with flashlights to help guide the way, and lots of cool neon and fairy lights – but it will still be dark. As the trek takes us over grass and uneven path we do recommend you come with a touch to help guide your way.

Lots of fun at the end of the Castle Night Trek event.

A trek with a view

This is a really unique fundraising event – as you won’t get any other night-time treks in the East Sussex area. You’ll be setting off from the iconic Herstmonceux Castle in dusk – and you’ll get a glimpse of the beautiful countryside as the sunsets over the amazing woodlands and gardens before the night sets in.

Lots of fun at the Castle Night Trek event.

Why fundraise for Chestnut Tree House?

Gemma took part in Castle Night Trek last year in memory of her little boy Owen. Six weeks before Owen died at age seven of a brain tumour the whole family were able to come to Chestnut Tree House and be together while Owen’s medical needs were looked after.

Gemma told us about her motivation to get out and take on the challenge:

"We used to go on walks all the time. It’s something that we loved doing together and I feel close to him when I go out for a walk."

We couldn’t do it without our amazing volunteers

Our invaluable crew of volunteers will be cheering you over the finish line, serving hot chocolate at regular intervals and making sure everyone’s having a good time. Have a look at the roles available if you’re interested in volunteering.
