Charitable trusts and foundations

Grants and funding from trusts and foundations are vital to our ability to keep caring for children and families who know they don’t have long together. Whatever the size of the donation, each one is important to us and means that year on year we can continue to provide hospice care for children and families in Sussex and South East Hampshire. We’re very grateful to all the trusts and foundations who choose to support our work.

How Charitable Trusts and Foundations have recently helped:

Social Farms & Gardens provided a grant of £1,500 specifically for the amazing programme of activities in the gardens at the House during the summer of 2022. Their grant helped us to provide 259 children and families the opportunity to take part in activity sessions, including:

  • a visit from Amazing Animals
  • a family picnic day in the Woodland Walk with scavenger hunts and garden games and crafts
  • a garden party with music and games for young people age 16-18
  • a medieval themed day

Their grant also paid for 30 children to visit Chestnut Tree House for respite stays during July and August, experiencing sensory storytelling sessions in the grounds of the hospice. Over the summer, many events took place in the gardens at the House, giving lots of our children the opportunity to enjoy the natural environment. And for parents and carers, it was also a chance to relax, have fun, and meet other families like theirs.

The special events gave the children a large, safe enclosed space to run around in and enjoy being outdoors in nature. For our families, who don’t know how long they have together, it’s activities like these that help cement precious memories.

“We were delighted to award Chestnut Tree House a grant in 2022 as part of our Summer Activity Grant Scheme. Spending time outdoors and in nature is essential for young people, and it was fantastic to see how the team at Chestnut Tree House used our small grant to create some really special moments for the young people they work with and their families”.
