Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about making donations to Chestnut Tree House.


I am not sure if my donation via JustGiving has gone through – how can I check?

You should have a thank you email from JustGiving confirming that your donation has been received.

If this email does not appear in your inbox, please check your junk/spam folder and if you have not received an email at all, please check with your bank.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is one of the simplest and most effective ways of giving to charity.

Gift Aid is a scheme introduced by the Inland Revenue which allows us to claim an extra 25p for every £1 that you donate – at no extra cost to you.

So, for example, if you donate £20 we can claim an extra £5, making your gift worth £25.

You simply need to be a UK tax payer.

If you already donate to us and want to check that you are gift aiding your donations then please contact us.

Gift Aid on your donated items at our charity shops

You can opt in to a separate Gift Aid scheme when you donate items to our charity shops too. This lets us collect 25% more whenever we sell something that you donated.

To help us take advantage of Gift Aid, download the registration form below, fill it in and bring it with your donation to your local Chestnut Tree House shop.

How can I change my contact details?

How do I set up a direct debit donation?

I would like to do some fundraising for your charity. How can I get involved?

There are lots of ways you can fundraise for us be it through volunteering, joining a fundraising group or taking part in a challenge event. Please take a moment to see how you could fundraise for us.

Yes, please contact us. You can also donate quickly and securely online.

Will I receive an acknowledgement of my gift?

If you donate online you will receive an email to confirm receipt of your gift. If you donate by post or over the phone, we will send you a confirmation letter, unless you have already told us you would prefer not to receive one.

Unfortunately we are unable to send physical thank you letters due to COVID-19. However, we would like to say an enormous thank you to every single one of you for donating and supporting your local community who rely on hospice care. Thank you.

How can I donate from my Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) account?

There are a number of ways you can give to Chestnut Tree House through your Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) account.

By phone

Please contact us. Alternatively contact CAF directly on 08456 000 909 (calls charged at local rate).


We’re unable to take online donations from your CAF account via our website.

However, you can make a secure donation from your CAF card account through our listing on the Charities Aid Foundation website by searching for St Barnabas Hospices or our registered charity number which is 256789.

By standing order

To set up a regular donation login to your member area on the Charity Aid Foundation website to download a standing order form, or phone the CAF customer service team on 01732 520 055.

By post
