Could you walk a month in the footsteps of a hospice nurse? Challenge yourself to either 7,000 or 10,000 steps a day in February.
Our hospice nurses walk between 7,000 and 10,000 steps a day when looking after children with life-shortening conditions at Chestnut Tree House, and in the community.
Walk either 7,000 or 10,000 steps a day in February in support of the nurses at Chestnut Tree House. We’ll send you a pair of exclusive Chestnut Tree House shoelaces to help keep you on track.
And when you’ve completed your challenge, we will send you a well-deserved medal – to show our appreciation and what a difference you have made!
Have a competitive side? Join Nurses’ Steps Facebook Group and post your steps and see how well you and all the other Chestnut steppers are doing!
It’s just £10 to sign up.
All we ask is that you raise at least £70, which could pay for a nurse to make a home visit to one of our families (making up some of their 7000-10,000 steps!).
Taking 7,000 steps every day in February is the equivalent of walking 98 miles (a lightyear is 93 million miles. But don’t worry, it’s not as far as that!)
However if you can challenge yourself to 10,000 steps a day in February you’ll have walked a total of 140 miles, equivalent to walking along the beautiful coastline of Brighton to Bournemouth.

You’ll be able to complete your daily steps however you want, even if there are local COVID-19 restrictions. But to stay safe on your walk, please keep up-to-date with the latest coronavirus guidelines. Rest assured, Nurses’ Steps is covered by Chestnut Tree House’s COVID-19 Promise.
1. Choose your challenge – 7,000 or 10,000 steps. Register and receive your exclusive Chestnut Tree House shoelaces.
2. Tell your family, friends and work colleagues – in fact anyone and everyone – that you are completing Nurses’ Steps and start raising your sponsorship.
3. Set up your JustGiving page, it only takes a few moments and your sponsorship will come straight to Chestnut Tree House.
4. Join Nurses’ Steps Facebook Group – and connect with the Chestnut Tree House Nurses’ Steps community.
5. Lace up your trainers and step up for Chestnut Tree House to make a big difference to local children and families! You can do this – step by step!
There are plenty of ways you can hit your daily target – rack up the numbers by walking all or part of your commute or school run, taking the stairs instead of the lift at work, going for a family walk at the weekend, or even giving the dog a month of extra walks!
Don’t panic if you have an off day or a day off! You could always make the steps up on a nice weekend walk – or make up the numbers across the next week.
Head over to the information hub where you’ll find everything you need to get ready for your challenge (from which socks to wear to how to record your steps) and support with your all-important fundraising – it’s all here in one handy place!
You’ll also find more about the benefits of walking – another great reason to take part in our Nurses Steps challenge

COVID-19 has meant we’ve faced huge challenges, and we’re all still navigating our way through it as a community. As a charity, we rely on people’s kind donations and the money we receive from fundraising activities. But most of the fundraising we relied upon in 2020 to keep going was cancelled or postponed due to the pandemic, and our income has fallen dramatically.
Every step you take in our Nurses’ shoes, will make a big difference to local children and their families.
