First published in 1978, Raymond Briggs’ original much-loved picture book, The Snowman™ will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year. In advance of this, we are helping this iconic and much loved character get into the party spirit by celebrating our 10-year relationship with The Snowman™ this winter.

As part of this, we are inviting children aged 4-12 years, living in Sussex or South East Hampshire, to get inspired by The Snowman™ and draw or paint their own spectacular snowman picture for our special Chestnut Tree House Christmas card competition.

Entries will be judged by a panel in two age categories (4-8 years and 9-12 years) and there will be one winner in each category.

Tips for a good snowman Christmas card design:

  • Use plain white A4 paper or card
  • Feature a snowman in your design – you can include more than one if you like
  • Make your design clear
  • Bold colours are good for attracting attention
  • Use pencils, crayons, felt tips or paints, but avoid glitter or stick-on decorations
  • Any writing needs to be clear and neat

Guest judge: Raymond Briggs CBE, Chestnut Tree House Patron and creator of The Snowman™

Entry deadline: Friday 24 November

Winners will be announced early December and invited to Chestnut Tree House to receive their prizes on the afternoon of Thursday 14 December.

How to enter: Draw or paint your snowman Christmas card design on a plain sheet of white A4 paper or card and send it by Friday 24 November to:
