We need volunteers to help at events across East Sussex and West Sussex

Promotional stand volunteers

We are looking for volunteers to promote our events by talking and handing out leaflets for events such as Night to Remember, Hit the Downs, Littlehampton 10k and other events across Sussex. Collecting box co-ordinators

We are looking for volunteers to co-ordinate the collection, placement and replacement of our hospice’s collecting tins, primarily in Chichester, Horsham, Crawley, Brighton, Hove, Lewes, Uckfield, Heathfield, Hastings, Crowborough. We ask for a weekly commitment of a maximum of two hours. Friends Group

Could you and your friends be a super fundraising friend to Chestnut Tree House? Could you co-ordinate a range of fundraising events throughout the year (typically around two or three) and act as a true ambassador for you local children’s hospice? We need volunteers to help our Maintenance Team with looking after the Chestnut Tree House vehicles.

Why we want you:

We need you to assist the Maintenance Team in the upkeep of the Chestnut Tree House vehicle fleet. It is important for us to ensure they are in a safe and road-worthy condition whenever in use.

The role will involve:

Volunteers will work as a team of two, undertaking and completing the various checks and cleaning tasks such as:

  • Checking the lights
  • Keeping oil levels topped up
  • Checking tyre pressures
  • Checking water levels
  • Cleaning the inside of the vehicle
  • Vehicle washing & vacuuming (involving driving locally)

Please note volunteers are not expected to act as a mechanic, as the vehicles are still serviced annually by a local garage.

Your skills:

  • Capability to carry out basic vehicle safety and running checks.
  • Willingness to undertake training on Manual Handling, Health & Safety and the Control of Hazardous Substances (COSHH) and the use of specific maintenance tools where appropriate
  • Good communication and listening skills
  • Ability to use small hand tools i.e. screwdriver
  • Ability to use maintenance apparatus including battery driven equipment, pressure washer and small steps/ladder
  • Competent in handling materials identified as hazardous in the COSHH register and the use of power tools
  • Flexible, adaptable and willing to work on your own or part of our team
  • Reliable and good time-keeping
  • Physically able to carry out allocated tasks
  • An insight into children with disabilities and the needs of their families

Mandatory requirements:

  • A full UK driving licence is ideally required
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality
  • Any personal grief resolved
