Thank you for your interest in working for Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice. We have a range of jobs available at the hospice and in our charity shops which we regularly have vacancies for, covering East and West Sussex.

Catering Assistants

Hours: Part-time & Bank
Salary: £8.91 per hour


Chestnut Tree House is the children’s hospice for East and West Sussex and South East Hampshire, providing specialist palliative care for children and young people with life-shortening conditions.


We are looking for a hardworking, well-organised, kitchen assistant with good all-round food preparation skills to join our Catering Team at Chestnut Tree House.

Part-time Permanent hours:

Every Monday 2pm-7pm and alternate Sundays 9am-2pm, averaging 7.5 hours per week.  Additional shifts may be offered to cover for annual leave and sickness.


We also have availability to offer bank shifts, which are as and when required to cover annual leave, sickness etc.


Your duties will include:

  • Temperature recording
  • Putting away deliveries
  • Working to deadlines under your own initiative without direct supervision
  • Having a flexible, team-orientated approach
  • Washing up
  • To undertake general cleaning duties as directed by the Chef Manager
  • To help maintain kitchen, cooking areas, storeroom and kitchen equipment in a clean and safe condition
  • Prepare food such as salads/sandwiches/vegetables under the guidance of the cook
  • Cater for dietary and allergy requirements
  • Mandatory training modules and company Food Hygiene Training must be completed


You will need to have a flexible, team-orientated approach and must be comfortable working in the hospice environment.  Food Hygiene Level 2 and/or previous experience of catering in a care environment would be preferred.


Due to the remote location and lack of public transport, access to your own transport is essential.
