Chestnut Tree House offers a range of additional services, such as a Youth Group, a group for under-fives and the chance for young people to become Buddies of a young person supported by the hospice.
Saplings was started in April 2013 in response to replies from a parent questionnaire that showed parents would like an under-fives and parent group that included siblings.
Saplings is now held twice-monthly in the Annexe at Chestnut Tree House between 10am and 1pm and monthly at Shinewater Children’s centre in Eastbourne.
Sessions are either held as a coffee morning, to allow parents the space to talk to each other, or as a planned activity. From the parents’ feedback this is a happy balance for them.

Young people with life-shortening conditions can access youth groups, activity days and take part in activities in their local communities.
This will be personal to each individual young person and may include activities such as shopping trips, eating out, going bowling, attending local youth groups and cinema trips. Our Buddy Scheme supports these activities.
The overall aim is to help raise the young person’s confidence, experience new things and give them opportunities to meet up with their peers.

Our Buddy Scheme is part of the hospice care that we provide.
This gives each young person the opportunity to get involved with a Buddy – a volunteer around their own age, with whom they can enjoy different activities, either within our monthly youth group and community visits, or as part of our activity days that run during the school holidays.
All Buddies are supported by our Buddy Co-ordinator.
