Raymond Briggs CBE sadly dies aged 88

Raymond Briggs has been a friend and Patron of Chestnut Tree House for many years. We are saddened by the news of his death (9 August 2022) and will miss him greatly.

Raymond did so much for us behind the scenes and was always generous with his time and talent. We always found him to be welcoming and warm, and with a great sense of humour.

Since 2008, Raymond kindly allowed us to use his iconic Snowman as the theme for our winter fundraising ball and other activities – helping to raise vital funds for the charity as well as increasing awareness of children’s hospice care across Sussex.

Over the years, Raymond gave us exclusive illustrations to use for our Christmas card range and to auction, raising even more funds for the hospice. He also donated signed memorabilia to use as prizes and gifts for the children we care for; and spent many hours judging children’s drawing competitions for us.

Raymond has been a very important part of Chestnut Tree House for many years, and we will always be grateful for his kindness and support. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
