Children and families are often known to Chestnut Tree House for many years and can access a wide range of services in that time – from care at home to fun activity days, short breaks at the hospice, end-of-life care, and bereavement support. All delivered by a multidisciplinary team including specialist Nurses, Activity Coordinators, Counsellors and Healthcare Assistants.

We have the following on offer for families:

Some of our specialist services include:

  • Specialist nurses with expertise in long term ventilation.

We have six rooms for children age 0-12 and four rooms for teenagers and young people. Some rooms allow siblings to share, or for parents to sleep in adjoining rooms. Each room has specialist hoists to facilitate movement in and out of beds and there’s state of the art bathrooms and bathing facilities to help children and young people.

Our rooms allow families to access 24 hour care for short breaks, emergency care, step down from hospital and end of life services.

You’ll be helping children access some of the amazing recreational facilities we have, including: a main lounge, a computer room, magic carpet room, wet and dry play areas, music room, hydrotherapy pool and multi-sensory room.

Bereavement and end of life facilities

The Stars Bereavement suite

Following the sad death of a child we have a bereavement suite called ‘Stars’ that families are welcome to use. It provides complete privacy and includes a special bedroom for the child to lay at rest for a period of time in a supportive environment.

Any family can use Stars – their baby, child, or young person doesn’t need to have been cared for by the hospice prior to their death. During this time we can support you in making funeral arrangements

You can refer a family to use The Stars using the referral form

Bereavement support

We have a bereavement team who are there for families after their child’s death. There’s different ways they can access ongoing support which can include counselling, support groups, and invitations to remembrance events.

Activities at the House and beyond

We offer children and young people a comprehensive activity programme, including fun activity days at the hospice, where children of all ages and abilities, and their families, can enjoy circus performances, pirate parties, magic shows and much more. We also offer: a toddler group, a special youth group and an over 18s group, including film making and comedy nights.

A regular rota of engagement events for parents and carers run throughout the year at various venues around Hampshire, at the House and in East Sussex too. Giving them a chance to get together to socialise and chat as well as specific events for grandparents and siblings.
