Cycle alongside an Olympic gold medallist at Hit the Downs

Sign up for Hit the Downs on 16 July and you might find yourself cycling alongside an Olympic gold medallist, as Sally Gunnell has signed up to take part. Sally took part in our first ever Hit the Downs in May 2017 and is returning this year.

If you decide to join her, you’ll be joining hundreds of fellow mountain bikers for a day of killer climbs, swooping descents, and tonnes of camaraderie. Hit the Downs is the only off-road charity mountain biking event in Sussex. Starting at Adur Recreation Ground in Shoreham-by-Sea, you’ll get mechanical support, refreshments along the way, a festival atmosphere and fully signed and marshalled 30km, 60km and 80km routes.

“I’ve been cycling regularly for years and riding my bike around the South Downs countryside is one of my favourite ways to keep fit with friends,” says Sally. “My friend Emma and I have taken part in a number of cycling challenges for charity – including riding from Chestnut Tree House to Paris – and I’m delighted to be doing Hit the Downs again.

“What I most enjoyed about Hit the Downs last time was the atmosphere and camaraderie. Everyone is there because they want to grab life by the handlebars and there’s so much encouragement for other riders. Come and join us and challenge yourself while raising money for a brilliant local charity!”
