Days out and activities

At Chestnut Tree House we don’t just offer clinical care and support for children, we also put on lots of fun for the whole family!

Summer 2024 was jam-packed with good times, and we couldn’t have done it without your support.

This year we’ve reached more families than ever before, with events at the hospice complementing a programme of activities out in our communities.

Your donations have helped us put on fantastic events like these – check out some of the fun we’ve been having this summer:

Montage of images from the Supercars day at the House

So much fun at the Supercars Day!

Vroom vroom!

Our families got to hear the exhilarating roar of powerful engines up close, and even had the chance to sit inside some.

Images from Mr Bubble Pop!

Mr Bubble Pop is a firm favourite!

Christopher and his family have fun standing in massive bubbles, and holding them in the palm of their hands!

With such a big catchment area, we are bringing more and more activities out on the road to make them more accessible for our families. This bubble pop activity was held at Fratton Community Centre, which has all the facilities we need such as a changing places and accessible entrance.

A selection of images from Mega Messy Play at Chestnut Tree House

A mega messy time was had by all

From sensory activities like spaghetti and slime squidging, to playing under the foam cannon and the spectacular colour run finale, kids and adults alike created some wonderful memories.

Sensory play is a really important part of children’s hospice care. Designed to stimulate a child's basic senses such as sight, sound, smell, taste or touch, it encourages children to explore different senses and develop a better understanding of the world around them.

A selection of images from Sunday Funday

We run regular weekend hang-outs

Our Sunday Funday events give families the chance to use the House as they wish. We set up some fun activities and games then they are free to explore.

Whether it's making a racket in the music room, chilling out in the sensory room, swinging in the play park, or taking a stroll through the woodland walk, the possibilities for creating fun moments together are endless!

A montage of images of two young children on a boat

Avast, me hearties - skull and crossbones flags at the ready!

Some of our children and young people and their families took to the high seas over the summer for an incredible experience out on the water with Wet Wheels. They set sail on an accessible speedboat voyage which is designed so that every scallywag can get to savour the thrill of the waves.

Everyone had so much fun, getting to be pirates for the day - experiencing the wind in their hair and the salty spray of the briny deep.

children and staff taking part in bonkers bingo

We had a great time at Bonkers Bingo!

One of our favourite summer events was Bonkers Bingo, with singing, dancing and prizes all round, including one giant fluffy dog!

families and staff dancing and having fun at Chestival

We ended our summer in style at Chestival

We saw out summer at the House with a bang with our day-long festival full of music, fun and laughs, Chestival!

The children, young people and their families were treated to a jam-packed day of performances from local bands, musicians and performers.

We sang Disney songs, saw an amazing Adele tribute, marvelled at a magician, sang with a Makaton choir, danced to a rock band, learned to beatbox and even met Batman!

And then we danced the evening away at the silent disco. It was the perfect end to a summer of fun.

Our amazing Activities team puts together fun, stimulating and (often) messy activities that are accessible for all the children we help care for and their families to get involved in.

Thanks to the generous support of people like you, we can continue to create these magical moments for local families.

Your support makes magical days possible, please donate today.

Children's hospice care isn’t just about looking after children’s health. It’s also about having fun, finding beauty in the moment and making memories that last a lifetime. Children with life-limiting conditions – and their siblings – often need to grow up fast. It’s part of our job to give them the space to enjoy being children again.
