With so many fantastic running events to choose from, its difficult to know where to start – which is why we’ve cherry picked some of the best ones that are right on your doorstep around the South Coast.

  • Beachy Head Marathon October 21 2023 | One the biggest off-road marathons in the UK, popular for a scenic and challenging route through the South Downs National Park countryside. Great for runners, joggers, and walkers!
  • Running GP at Goodwood Motor Circuit: December 3 2023 | Run the famous Goodwood Motor Circuit, home to the Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival. Enjoy the thrill of racing your way to a new chip timed personal best on this smooth traffic free tarmac motor racing circuit.
  • Race to the King: June 15 2024 | The ultimate ultra! A South Downs Ultra Marathon steeped in history taking in Chichester coast and Arundel Castle.

  • The Big Half: September 1 2024 | A vibrant, inclusive half marathon with a fun, festival atmosphere. The course starts at Tower Bridge and takes you all the way to the iconic Cutty Sark in Greenwich.
  • Barns Green Half: September 29 2024 | Run on closed roads through the beautiful West Sussex countryside, near Horsham.
  • Royal Parks HalfDate for 2024 not announced yet | Run on closed roads through four of the eight Royal Parks as well as being the greenest race of its kind in the UK.

Almost half marathon:

  • Great South Run: (10 miles) 15 October 2023| Considered as one of the world’s favourite 10-milers, with inspiring history and glorious sea views.

Fun runs, 5KMs, trail runs and night-time events

  • Heave Castle Commando: 14-15 October 2023 | A fun and tough 3k, 6k or 12k commando obstacle race held in Hever Castle’s grounds.
  • South Downs Trail Run: 25 November 2023 | Choose the distance (12.4km, 18.5km or 21.2km) to run across the scenic  Downs on this all off-road race.
  • Dark West Sussex: 3 February 2024| A unique opportunity to run the hills, forests, and farm tracks of the South Downs at night!
  • Colour Rush Brighton: 11 May 2024 | Memorable, fun and colourful! A great run for all beginners.
  • Dawn on the Downs: 7 July 2024 | Choose from a 10km, 10mile, 5km options – and bring your pooch for this picturesque early morning race.
